Fox Sports Mobile - Iphone App Review

Fox Sports Mobile (Free)

Fox Sports Mobile is an app for the iPhone and iPod touch that takes the huge variety of sports information that is out on the web and manages to squeeze it down into an easy to review format anywhere right in your hand!

Now I’m sure you’re thinking the same thing I was when I downloaded this app. “Bah! Another free sports app? They all have clunky interfaces and perform poorly when you actually want to know something! It’s probably full of ads and junk too huh?” I am here to tell you that this app is definitely not the typical “free sports app.”

The first thing you see when you fire up this app is a page that gives you a general overview of the sports headlines across the board. At the bottom of the screen are three buttons. “News,” which is the page you begin on, “Video,” and “Scores”. This overview is great for keeping up with the latest news, but for those that are nuts for a certain sport there is plenty of information available on all kinds of different sports!

This program is not just about overview though. You can also access the latest scores right away by pressing the “Scores” button and selecting the sport you are interested in, or if you just want information relating to another sport you can quickly bring it up by clicking button in the top right and selecting a sport from the menu that pops out.

From a page for one of the individual sports there are even more options. You can quickly view “News,” “Scores,” information about individual “Teams,” the current “Standings” or “Stats” for your favorite player and/or team with a quick click of a button. It even has fantasy information for select sports which includes NFL football to help give you the edge!

While I really loved the interface and the information that you find within this app, I do have a few gripes. The first is that there is no way to set favorite teams within this app. I love the in depth baseball information I am able to get about my St. Louis Cardinals, but having to select “National League” and then scroll all the way down to the St. Louis every time I want to look at their page is kind of annoying. It would also be nice if the application had an option to remember where you were when you last closed the app. It gets a little annoying having to navigate back to a game that you’re trying to keep tabs on
1000
everytime you start the app back up.

One final thing that would be nice to see is some kind of mobile alert system like ESPN currently does on other devices and has already demonstrated it will offer with the release of the 3.0 software update. If they are tweak the things mentioned in the last paragraph and offer their own mobile updates, they may possibly give ESPN a run for their money in this mobile market.
Besides these minor setbacks I am very impressed with all the work that has obviously gone into this application. I find myself often going to this app to get information that I cannot even get in MLB’s paid baseball app! If you are looking for an excellent, and easy to use, source for sports information look no further, Fox has what you need!
